3rd Quarter Seating Auditions - Starting February 6th.

These seating auditions will be used to determine seats for all orchestra students. All seating auditions will occur during each student's sectional between Feb. 6th and 14th. The sectional schedule can be found here.

These auditions will be blind auditions, meaning that I (Mr. Denne) will not know who is playing during the audition. Auditions will be scored solely on the quality of performance. Tone quality will be the most important factor. Other factors that will be considered are intonation, rhythm, articulation, accuracy, and expression.

Each sectional group will have a different required excerpt for the audition.

These excerpts will be as follows:

Blue-Day Violin Group B - Russian Easter Overture, Violin 1, from measure 26-104.

Blue-Day Violin Group A -Russian Easter Overture, Violin 1, from measure 26-104.

White-Day Violin Group B - Antique Airs and Dances, Violin 1, first mvt.

White-Day Violin Group A - Antique Airs and Dances, Violin 2, first mvt.

These groups are listed by difficulty with the most advanced group listed first. For violins, the top two scores in each sectional group will move to a more advanced sectional group and the bottom two scores in each sectional group will move down one sectional group. This allows students that are working hard and making large improvements to advance in the orchestra program. For the top two scores in the White-Day Violin Group B and the bottom two scores in the Blue-Day Violin group A, this audition will result in a change in their orchestra grouping. The top score in Blue-Day Violin Group B will be awarded the concertmaster position.

----------

Blue-Day Violas - Russian Easter Overture, from measure 26-104.

White-Day Violas - Antique Airs and Dances, first mvt.

These groups are listed by difficulty with the most advanced group listed first. For violas, the top score in the white-day orchestra will move to the blue-day orchestra and the bottom score in the blue-day orchestra will move to the white-day orchestra. This allows students that are working hard and making large improvements to advance in the orchestra program.

---------

Blue-Day Cellos - The Gift, from measure13-32

White-Day Cellos - Antique Airs and Dances, first mvt.

Due to the large number of students participating in the 7th and 8th grade orchestra this year (over 70), I have divided the orchestra into two groups:

White-Day Orchestra and Blue-Day Orchestra

Students were assigned to either the White-Day or Blue-Day orchestra at the beginning of the school year. On the day that each student is not in orchestra, he or she will participate in the chorus with Mrs. Pogue. This incredibly generous gesture by Mrs. Pogue allows all of the students to continue playing in the orchestra. Without her support, we would have had to reduce the number of students in the orchestra by 20 students in order to meet the fire code requirements for our rehearsal space. While we are still working on ways to solve the problem in a different way, we have not yet found another solution to meet the growing needs of the orchestra program.
